Here is a very interesting short TED talk on how stress affects the brain, concluding with the fact that mindfulness meditation is a key protector.
Below are some guided mindfulness meditations by Deborah. It is suggested that beginners start with the 2 minute meditation and gradually increase to a longer meditation when they are ready. The videos range from 2 minutes to 20 minutes.
